Jens Axboe, who also acts as the block subsystem maintainer, IO uring chief developer, and fills other responsibilities, said that he was searching for someone to take over the Linux CD-ROM driver development after more than two decades of maintaining it.
As part of his early work with the Linux kernel, Axboe has been maintaining the CD-ROM driver code since the late 1990s. However, with everything else on his Linux I/O plate and his job at Facebook, he doesn't have much time to dedicate to it these days.
After stating last week that he was seeking for someone to take over Linux CD-ROM code maintenance, he has chosen Phillip Potter to fill the position.
Phillip Potter hasn't worked on the Linux CD-ROM code before, although he has contributed to the kernel in other ways. He was the only one (at least publicly) who expressed an interest in acquiring the CD-ROM code. Phillip Potter, on the other hand, has made significant contributions to various parts of the kernel, including considerable contributions to the r8188eu/rtl8188eu staging driver code and other prior fixes since 2017.
